You can sell a blog and it is a profitable business

Monetization does not only come from the sale of products or advertising, sometimes the blog itself is the product that we work on and put on sale.

I know the concept of selling blogs sounds weird but it is a profitable way to monetize.

Surely you read it and think that with the work that runs a blog it must be something strange, because it is something normal and it is normal, it is done very often with web pages and there are good reasons to buy second-hand websites and blogs.

I have had blogs for a long time, this is the one I work on the most, I keep some mounted in order to sell them in the future, (this is not for sale) I have already sold blogs on previous occasions and it is a profitable, legal and clean business.

Motivations to sell a blog

To sell a blog there are many reasons that push us; the strongest is the economic one, there are times when they offer you money for your blog and you decide to sell or its maintenance becomes expensive.

Due to work, dedication, time… we cannot give even 20% to the blog of what it requires and we think about closing it, because a good option is to sell it, so you recover your investment although the most personal part is never recovered.

On other occasions you start a project such as a blog, a website, an online store but you see that it gets out of hand, there are times that you need to invest more, put money, buy merchandise, rent a space, store, manage orders, hire and it is not what you have in mind and you decide to transfer that business. There is the alternative that you build a blog in order to sell it and take advantage of it in the future, it is an investment of time and money that you can exploit while you mature.

Why do people buy blogs and websites in operation?

There are start-up companies that need a blog or a website to gain prestige or visibility, time is an irreplaceable SEO factor.

There are pages that due to their age with a pinch of work can give amazing results and since they cannot be manufactured overnight, the alternative is to buy a blog with a similar theme.

Thanks to having a blog with a community around it, it is easier to enter the market, build trust.

Businesses buy blogs

If we think that a company that wants to start its new blog has to invest between assembly and labor writing and positioning. With only 100 posts, let’s imagine that each post takes 2 hours… because maybe they are interested in buying something already positioned that with a change of staff will make them win many months ahead.

There are sectors where “all the fish is sold” in them trying to position a newly created blog with a newly purchased domain is crazy, it requires a large investment in marketing and advertising that is not comparable to organic positioning.

When should I consider selling a blog?

You should think about selling your blog when you have the decision made firmly, think that it is to close, transferring your blog is a tough decision because the effort and the experiences that it has given you are priceless.

I recommend that you decide to sell when your blog is working, the better traffic, the better SEO, the more years the better the price you will get for it, if you make the decision when your blog is in the doldrums you will not earn much.

Tips for selling your blog

  • Take an inventory of your blog and what it has, social networks, followers, subscribers, affiliate programs, landing pages, groups, communities…
  • Do not publish sales announcements on the blog, nor do you put it on social networks, this is one thing that can cause it to devalue a lot, if the sale is urgent, email marketing is preferable
  • Refine the theme, the more specialized a blog is, the more expensive it can be sold.
  • Give it a good review, optimize SEO, improve the load so that it is optimized and of higher quality
  • Improve the metrics and rankings in which we appear, alexa, Moz, Semrush
  • Purge your content, remove personal posts, correct old posts, give headlines and titles a bit more riot
  • Try to thicken your list of subscribers, the more you have the greater value it will have
  • Integrate advertising or products to be able to calculate your minimum price with conversions and real income
  • Polish social networks and think if they will go in “the lot” to be able to quote them since they are an added value
  • Think that you need 3 to 6 months of observation to be able to generate better reports
  • Clean up the accounting.
  • Get up-to-date with mandatory legal requirements

Can all kinds of blogs be sold?

Yes, of course, that is where the common sense of each one enters, if it is a blog about your child, it is named after you and you are a very protagonist or very vivid personal experiences… etc… because it will be difficult for you to find a buyer

You can also sell just the domain

A very normal practice is the reseller, they are people who buy domains and then sell them, see an opportunity, register the domain and offer it to companies, people or celebrities at high prices (€ 100-3000)

If you have a domain with an indexed age and you do not want to sell your content, you can sell only the domain. Besides, there are times when it is advisable to only put the domain up for sale because “they will not pay for the blog”

Can You Sell a Blogger Blog?

According to Google, it happens that with You Tube it goes against the policy of the service… NO

But in practice, they are sold and bought and even well-known brands with You Tube channels do, but it can be a fiasco with all the consequences, it is linked to your gmail and all Google services.

As with blogger, it happens with many platforms, they include it in the terms, besides it is much more difficult to find buyers for free platforms or managed by third parties than for WordPress
