How to put a chat on your blog for free and in a simple way

There is something that is rising like foam in this year chats on any website, putting a chat has become almost essential because it is easy to implement on your blog.

Chats or messengers help the user a lot to choose or clear doubts, they are a direct contact tool that make communication more human and most importantly in real time.

There are many types of chats to put on your blog, some are plugins and others for example come in CRM with premium features.

I have chosen to do the tutorial on how to put a mesenger chat on your blog with a free tool, there are others that are integrated into more expensive tools, plugins etc… and some that work very well but are not as complete and with the interface so modern.

Advantages of putting a chat to chat with your readers

  • Chatbots are a very interesting work tool, especially for those blogs or websites that provide services or sell products since they can offer commercial attention directly.
  • You can collect feedback from readers in real time, that’s very interesting when you need suggestions.
  • They increase the stay on page which is very beneficial for your blog because they help to hide the bounce rate.
  • They increase trust thanks to personal treatment, in the case of online sales it is very important.
  • They improve engagement thanks to offering a chat service that even if you don’t use it is there and you know that you are going to get a response.
  • Avoid negative, repetitive comments or with personal questions, imagine that you have made a post for a dietary product and someone puts a negative comment, or someone decides to tell their medical history in comments… if they download it on the messenger you will calm the beasts and give a good opinion.
  • I have decided on GetSiteControl to do the chats because it is free, it can be customized a lot, it has statistics and the possibility of getting more functionalities, it is scalable, imagine that you are starting to sell like crazy and you need more functions…
  • I have been asked many times: how do I put a chat on my blog? but since I have a severe allergy to pop-ups, I couldn’t bring myself to tell it.
  • In the end, I see that they are very practical and I use them a lot, since I prefer that someone solve my doubts when I have the card in hand, then to wait for an answer by mail.

·         How to put a chat on your blog for free

  • The first thing is to register in GetSiteControl by clicking here, it works with the mail, you do not need the card or confidential data.
  • This post works for WordPress.org, for wordpress.com as well but you have to follow a different configuration, for blogspot and for normal html web.

·         We obtain the code for the chat widget on our website

  • To create a chat widget, the tool will ask you for the Url of your blog or website and it will generate a script so that you can place it before the head tag in the web or in blogspot or to place it in an empty text widget in WordPress, if you do not have a section in your template to place it.

We choose the chat widget that we are going to put on the blog

Now to create the chat you have to choose what type of widget you want to create from the options that you have available.

In our case we choose the chat, as you can see there are more things that may interest you such as surveys and promotions.

We choose the colors, theme, position and appearance of the mesenger

Once selected we will see that it offers us many customization options:

You can customize your blog chat with the colors you want, but this tool has the advantage that it takes the palette of your blog’s theme, although you can change it to your liking but I think it’s fine.

You can put another letter and choose how you want the animation to appear when it appears.

We personalize automatic messages and translate pop-ups

It allows you to choose how you want the chat pop up to appear.

In the content tab you can customize the messages that you want to appear in the messenger: welcome, title, messages for when you are not active, asking for the email to contact … these are some functions that I have not found for free in others.

We establish our availability in the messenger

This tab is the most important, it is in which we dictate to the tool the rules so that the chat is shown to our visitors.

It is very important to correctly establish our availability, imagine that you are only going to use it for a short campaign, or that you can only answer in the afternoons or only on weekends.

How to answer the chats

In the upper tab it tells you if you have any active chat, click and you will see that each conversation adds a different ID so that you can manage it from the platform.

I like that it is managed from the external platform because from wordpress itself it is slower and the chances of failure and incompatibilities are increased.

It’s also a good way to keep your conversations with prospects on file.
