Do not change from blogger to WordPress is a trap.

Maybe you are plotting to change your blogging platform, many people have migrated their blog from Blogger to WordPress thinking that it is the best for their blog, but many times this change is not as good as it seems on paper:
A change to WordPress does that you have to take into account aspects that you had not previously foreseen and sometimes are beyond our possibilities because Blogger practically maintains itself, there are things that Google does for you and very well done.

Do not change from blogger to wordpress is a trap.

I am going to point out that I am referring to wordpress.org, and to blogger, which has been called Blog spot for a long time, but most people continue to know it as blogger.
I write this post because I often hear: «Blogger is useless», «WordPress is more professional» and it is not like that, blogger more than fulfills its function and it seems irresponsible to encourage someone to change when change implies a huge evolution for your part. With this post I do not want to say that WordPress is bad, quite the contrary, but I want to break a spear in favor of those people who use blogger and feel pressured to make the leap to WordPress when it may not be the most appropriate for your blog. Possibly it has happened to you and I would like you to tell me about your experience, why you have decided to continue on BlogSpot or on the contrary if you have migrated your blog to WordPress.

I develop many projects with WordPress and I love it but I admit it “I’m a computer addict and I spend more hours than a clock”, but I understand that not everyone can and should not do the same as I do. When I need stability for a project, I choose html if I don’t have to give an admin side I usually go literally from WordPress. But since we live in the era of “I want to touch the web and put my grain of sand” in the end it’s time to use a CMS in the main case it is wordpress.org. WordPress has become very popular thanks to its backend and ease of use. A few months ago, I made a post about the false myths of blogger migrations

When we talk about the excellence of WordPress, we do not read the whole card, because WordPress does require constant maintenance that must be done if we do not want to have problems.
In recommending WP we don’t mention that it takes a long time to set up a blog properly and programming and web mastering skills are often required. However, many people in the end choose to pay for the personalization of the blog to avoid taking care of that part. There are also those who install the “theme of the year” and forget to leave even the “Another WordPress site” … ahem, ahem.
When someone says that WordPress is more professional, they mean fully installed and in good condition, if you leave it as standard, it will not be professional.
Maintenance is tricky, updates come into it and with it many times comes the replacement of obsolete elements and other things that they don’t tell you about the platform such as security, speed, errors… This in a blogger’s blog was not a concern. There are templates that do not give hardly any problems and that are hardly updated, but the reality is that more and more WordPress forces updates, so it is very difficult to avoid them and most of them are related to security.

Keep in mind that YOU will have to do things that Google did for you:

  • Host your blog and find the best web hosting possible.
  • Update WordPress platform
  • Update plugins and monitor their performance
  • Worry about security problems, hacking, spam
  • Optimize your content so that it is delivered correctly CDN
  • The most basic of SEO

Why fool us, unless you want to make big changes to your blogger blog template, it’s much easier to manage: your job is to generate quality content, search for images and promote your blog on social networks.

Why I think it is important that you evaluate if it is really worth changing your blog from blogger to WordPress.

Sometimes we make the mistake of killing flies with cannon fire, we believe that we need much more than what we are going to use and we make the mistake of choosing a platform as large and complex as WordPress for very simple projects in which the blogger can measure up ample.
I also use WordPress a lot, sometimes beyond the platform’s own possibilities, this makes me reflect when I encounter errors or the white screen of death about how a normal user can react to or manage it: I would cry and I would think “I’ve run out of blog”, unfortunately that happens a lot, and at that point I wonder: with what moral strength can I advise someone to migrate?

I have a plugin called Broken link checker that is used to detect the broken links detected in yoblogueo, when a link arrives and I see which blog has fallen, because it is usually because of blogs that no longer exist, thanks to that I have realized that many blogs throw in the towel more easily having passed to WordPress. Sometimes I have written to one of them or I have sent a private message on Facebook to let them know that their blog was not there and they have recognized that the time has come to renew the domain or hosting and they have decided not to continue.

That possibility of putting an end to the renewals does not exist with blogger since it is free, if it is stopped for 3 months nothing happens on the other hand if you pay it may be more “uphill”.

“WordPress is much more professional.” Do not let yourself complex.

This is the most common reason why many bloggers switch to WordPress, I have no doubt that WordPress is more professional if it is implemented correctly, not placing a normal template, two plugins and customizing what the mother-in-law sees, that way you will have the same amateur look or worse than blogger. The professional appearance of WordPress depends on the template, the plugins, your content and the work you put into it. Not all WordPress blogs look professional and not all bloggers look amateurish. I remember a few years ago that the blogger templates were horrible and those templates continue to roll without serious problems without ever updating, something that in WordPress is very difficult because surely you want to install a social plugin, another SEO, etc. and it forces you to enter the game of updates. Now there are templates for professional and cheap bloggers or free ones with a design that has nothing to envy to WordPress, so the appearance should not make the decision weigh so much when it comes to moving your blog. Apart from the appearance, although if you have seen the templates, you will see that blogger is cool and it is not so ugly, when they say that WordPress is more professional, they also refer to its extra functionalities, these can be in the theme itself or in the plugins that you can install, as everything depends on creativity and needs.

If you decide on WordPress, the possibilities of your blog may be greater, for example if you decide to install Woo Commerce to place a store, or Discus to make a forum.
In reality , the advantage that WordPress provides is thanks to its plugins that make it scalable , this means that if you are not going to use any type of extraordinary functionality or miss a widget that you cannot live without, you should consider whether or not to continue with your blogger blog.
Perhaps it no longer sounds exaggerated to you that WordPress is a trap , I say it with irony, because sometimes we paint it easy and we forget that it requires maintenance and care, which makes you be more aware of the blog than you would have thought the day that They told you “you have to switch to WordPress”.

With this I want to clarify that the decision is all yours , I use WordPress for blogs and some other things, as a web design professional I have solved “the backend ballot” for the client who wants to write, touch and think about changing photos etc., I love it, but I don’t recommend it to everyone.
