Guest posting or guest blogging is establishing itself as a trend that is going strong, it is becoming more common to find a section of guest bloggers in some well-known blogs.
It is a beneficial practice for both the blog and the guest author in most cases, which is why it is very popular and is making a place for itself in the blogosphere.
Origins of guest posting
Guest posting was born in the US and its essence is the collaboration between blogs to help spread it and generate content that is different from what is normally published. Later, good intentions gave way to SEO and it was established as the most correct and clean way to obtain quality external links to your site without being suspicious, this made this technique very popular. Currently, guest posting has a great future in the blogosphere, since if we like something, it is collaborating with other blogs, aside from creating quality content, it is something that takes a long time and help is not a bad thing.
What is guest posting or guest blogging
In principle, the bases are very simple, you invite another person to write an article for your blog, the guest blogger writes an article with guidelines that you must mark previously. Guest posting is an inbound marketing technique that serves to attract more readers to your blog, it is a practice that provides (if done well) advantages to both blog and guest, what we call a win to win of all life.
The success of guest posting is based on:
For a guest post to be successful, the first thing is to know how to choose the guest correctly, it can be done through a call or directly by inviting the blogger in question with a firm proposal, the latter is what I recommend since an open call can generate very different results. Much of the success is based on getting the guest author right but also on making the article interesting enough for both of you, making it an important article in your blog and linking to the interests of your readers is paramount, but you should also make the guest star feel comfortable with the collaboration.
The quality of the post is very important, a success in citizen2.0 is that the guest posts are awesome, as good or better than the posts with their own content, this makes the guest posts the jewel in the crown. Even if it is a guest post, the content should not be neglected Like everything in blogging, success is achieved by continuity, it makes little sense to make a guest post without regularity, ideally it should be done periodically, it includes guest posts in your editorial calendar so that they are frequent.
Guest posts help your blog grow for different reasons:
- They improve your relationship with other bloggers, you create synergies and collaborations, the good thing about guest posts is that they can be reciprocal.
- They increase the exposure of your blog and help improve your personal brand as a blogger.
- They add different and fresh content to your blog which makes it benefit from increasing the rate of publications, apart from who does not benefit from a fresh air balloon from time to time.
- It helps to attract new traffic that usually comes from the guest if you have promoted the article in their networks, it will make you known among their readers.
- You increase the frequency of publication, recently in a Bebloguera webinar, I saw an experiment on the frequency of publication and the conclusion was that it is good to publish 4 times a week, a guest posts a week can save you many headaches’ head.
- Enlarge the niche, one of the advantages of guest posting is that you can invite experts on topics related to yours that you do not dare to write about and expand the field of your blog a little.
- They break the monotony and surprise the reader with a different type of content that sometimes accompanies the discovery of a new blog.
I give the example of a cooking blog in which they invite pastry chefs:
They add value to the blog by expanding the theme of traditional cooking to pastry.
These types of recipes attract a related audience that can add volume of visits to the blog.
They have their readers who come to the cooking blog that they may not know, it is very possible that they are interested in some of your recipes or the section of pastry chefs.
Why it is interesting to have a guest posting section with different authors
It is very interesting when your blog has a certain trajectory to introduce new things, guest posting is ideal because you can attract good bloggers to make a guest post, a new blog will cost much more to get guests.
Your blog can receive more comments thanks to other types of content, also the interaction on the networks can be different since each blogger has their audience and in each blog they share differently.
It may be interesting to create a guest post section if:
- In case the theme of your blog is very broad and allows you to have guest posts on tangent techniques or topics that you do not control much, it can be enriching and a way to increase your presence.
- Not everyone can write a post a week, so there are blogs that have star guests to make a quality post that matches the content of the blog and thus cover a publication.
- If there are branches in your niche that escape you and you don’t feel comfortable writing about them, perhaps looking for guests to write about that topic is a very good idea.
- When you want to explore a niche in your theme.
You may be interested in being a guest author on a blog if:
- If you want to promote your blog in an environment similar to yours and make way for new readers.
- In case you need to reinforce your external link structure by adding quality sites related to your topic.
- If you like to write about topics unrelated to your blog or that do not have a very direct relationship.
- In case you are an expert on a topic and want to promote yourself beyond your blog, it is very interesting.
- You don’t have a blog but you like to write about topics you know.
Guest posting is not suitable for your blog when:
You are not clear about the terms in which you want to propose the collaboration , for example the extension, links, images, themes this can generate disagreements when working with guest authors. When what you really need are fixed collaborators , not a person who writes a post from time to time, this concept gets quite confused because there are collaborators who take care of sections in some blogs, just as there are blogs that are of several authors.
When your blog is very young and you don’t have a very clear editorial line , it can make you lose focus, besides it’s easy to find collaborators and if you want to incorporate it as something fixed once a month or a week it can be very complicated to maintain the rhythm. I hope you like this fashion of guest posting, I don’t practice it on the blog for a very simple reason: I still don’t think anyone benefits from publishing on my blog enough to write a long post.
