Let yourself be seen at social events so that your blog grows and is promoted

Throughout the year there are many opportunities to meet and physically promote your blog. Perhaps we do not give the importance it deserves to personal and human treatment, appearing from time to time at an event is synonymous with rapprochement and a way of networking on the front line that no virtual experience can replace.

Why “in person” promotion is important

I would like to meet readers and of course any blogger I deal with, it’s not curiosity, it’s something else; being able to talk in person about our work, our ways of approaching certain aspects of blogging life, telling each other tricks, exchanging those first impressions, I love it.

Let yourself be seen at social events so that your blog grows and is promoted

Apart from that, I find it positive to give it a more human dimension and to share a moment of chatting live can help strengthen the relationships we have with other colleagues.

There are many events related to blogs

There are more and more fairs and events related to the world of the blog, years ago it was unthinkable that something like blogging would move as many audiences as possible:
The RTVE Bitácoras awards, The Be! Blogger events organized by Red Facilisimo. Vlogger Awards Bebloguera, Madres era
20-minute blog awards.
Each time these galas and social events are more prepared, the locations with large capacity and the design of stands   by specialized professionals such as Buildup by Fire, who carry out all kinds of decorations and stands for fairs and events of all kinds.

Every time they invest in looking for better communicators and characters to entertain and present, as has been the case with the Vloggers gala, which has been great.
It wouldn’t surprise me if in a few years any of these galas were compared to the Goyas in terms of event preparation.

Types of events you can attend

There are different types of events and depending on the organization they can be more or less crowded, I would distinguish between these 4 main types:

  • Training events: courses, workshops, presentations, talks, conferences, meetups.
  • Promotional events: conventions, meetings
  • Events: awards, galas, cocktails
  • Fairs and events of the sector

How to prepare for an event

I hope to get a calendar of events, by the way I love attending, I enjoy it a lot so now you know if you know of any upcoming let me know! The first thing is to try to know it as far in advance as possible to be able to prepare some things that you may need, I have a list of very important things and actions that I cannot forget:

  • Business cards with the logo and name of your blog to give to anyone who is interested in your project, you can also prepare a bidi code with your contact so they can locate you.
  • Have a brief elevator pitch type presentation prepared, which makes it clear what you do but that sounds natural and relaxed, remember that you have to have fun.
  • Prepare a shortcut on your phone to your blog so you can quickly show it if someone asks you about it.
  • A hard cover notebook to write down and several pens to be able to take notes or write down anywhere.
  • Try to locate other people who plan to attend on your networks: LinkedIn, Google+ Facebook, groups, even if there is a forum about it, try to make yourself known. If you, do it in advance it will be very comfortable for you to attend the event.

If it is a training event, try to read a little about the subject so that you are not caught by surprise or too green, prepare questions because it is a good way to attract attention if the questions are intelligent. In case they are presentations or awards galas, try to inform yourself about who you are going to see and meet.

Have a good time in good company

Without a doubt, the worst thing you can do is stand aside without talking to anyone like a wooden spoon, try to take the opportunity to meet people if you have managed to go with some people it will be easier.

  • Try to be friendly and unleash your social skills, take the opportunity to throw flowers at your colleagues.
  • Take photos and upload them with the hashtag of the event and those of your blogs.
  • Ask for cards and phones.
  • Show interest in what they tell you and offer take notes.
  • Talk about your future projects.
  • Take all the information you can from the stands

What to do the day after the event

The day after an event, if you’ve moved around enough, you’ll have quite a bit of work organizing contacts. Collect the data of all the people you dealt with and start following them on social networks and even send a greeting message so they don’t get caught by surprise. If you have talked about a project, write a first contact email to avoid cooling the idea by remembering the collaboration. Invite them to know your work and publish impressions about the event on your networks so that other people who attended join. Not all events or fairs lend themselves to fostering relationships between attendees, it is common that you sit in one place and that you can only talk to the people next to you. In general, there is always a networking or “coffee” part where you can take the opportunity to start a conversation.

Events related to your theme

These types of events are very important for you to find out about news and contact potential sponsors more directly. In these types of events you must set a strategy to follow, and try to strengthen everything you say as much as possible.
